AGI LAUNCHES 2019 INDUSTRY & QUALITY AWARDS

The 8th edition of the AGI Industry and Quality Awards was successfully launched on Thursday, 7th June 2019 at the Coconut Grove Regency Hotel in Accra.

The launch, which was graced by the Chief Director of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Mr. Patrick Nimo, had industrialists from various member companies in attendance, including representatives of the winners of last year’s awards event.

In his opening remarks, the President of AGI, Dr. Yaw Adu-Gyamfi indicated that as the leading voice of the private sector in Ghana, the Association owes it to Industry to reward hard-working businesses that have striven to keep the wheels of industry running. The AGI Ghana Industry and Quality Awards, he stated, “motivates our industrialists to strive to perform better even in the face of economic difficulties. It is our duty as an Association to give credit to such distinguished companies while motivating others to climb up the ladder of excellence. AGI will like to see a business environment where hard work is continuously rewarded and help is available for those who need it”, he noted.

Dr. Adu Gyamfi commended the government for its bold efforts to host the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCTA) in Accra. He, however, appealed to Government as a matter of urgency to help develop local production capacity in order to position Ghanaian industries to fully leverage the opportunities of the agreement.

On his part, Mr. Patrick Nimo, Chief Director of the Ministry of Trade and Industry who represented the Honorable Minister on the night, commended the AGI for instituting and sustaining the award scheme for the past eight years. He indicated the Ministry’s readiness to collaborate with the Association to make his year’s edition a bigger one.

The AGI Industry & Quality Awards is an annual awards scheme that recognizes various industry players and businesses on industry and quality metrics. Currently, the award covers 7 major award categories including 23 sector award categories of AGI.  Presently, Nestle Ghana Ltd is the winner of the Overall Best Industrial Company of the year Overall National Best Quality Company and National Quality Award Diamond (Food Category).

Unilever Ghana Ltd was adjudged the Best Corporate Social Responsibility Company while Best Company Employer of the Year went to Olam Ghana Ltd. The award for National Quality Award Diamond (Non-Food Category) was won by Tropical Cable & Conductor Ltd and the award for the National Quality Award Gold (Category A) was won by Everpure Ghana Ltd.

This year’s award is under the theme “Positioning Ghanaian Industries for Global Competitiveness and will be held in November 2019.
