The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) has organised a capacity-building training for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in Ho, aimed at equipping businesses with practical knowledge and tools to improve their operations, strengthen resilience and achieve sustainable growth.
Held at the Sky Plus Hotel, the training brought together SME owners and key AGI representatives, including the AGI President, Pharm. Kofi Nsiah-Poku; Vice President in charge of SMEs, Mr. Dela Gadzanku; Regional Chairman for the Oti, Volta and Eastern Regions, Mr. Dela Gbeve; and Regional Manager, Mr. Daniel Sediafa.
In his remarks, Pharm. Kofi Nsiah-Poku highlighted the importance of strengthening the fundamentals of SME operations. He noted that challenges such as weak governance, poor bookkeeping and difficulties in accessing finance continue to affect the growth of businesses. The training therefore sought to provide entrepreneurs with the knowledge needed to establish stronger systems and make their businesses more investment-ready.
A key area of focus was financial management and proper record-keeping. Participants were encouraged to maintain accurate business records, as reliable financial information enables entrepreneurs to understand their businesses, make informed decisions and demonstrate their financial position when seeking funding.
The training also examined SME resilience and sustainability, with emphasis on preparing businesses to withstand economic shocks, adapt to changing market conditions, manage risks and continue operating successfully.
The sessions were facilitated by Mr. Delali Nkrumah-Gatsey, Senior Credit Manager at the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), and Dr. Francis Nutsugah, Senior Lecturer at Ho Technical University (HTU).
The programme forms part of AGI’s commitment to strengthening Ghanaian businesses by moving SMEs from survival to structured, resilient and sustainable enterprises.
