AGI Rep in China Joins Launch of Ghana’s First RMB Prepaid Cards in Shanghai

The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Office Representative in China, Teddy Guh, has participated in the launch of Ghana’s first Chinese Yuan (RMB) prepaid cards by GCB Bank PLC, in partnership with UnionPay International.

The official launch, held in Shanghai, China, in October 2026, marks an important development in Ghana-China financial and business relations, providing greater convenience for financial transactions between the two countries.

The new prepaid cards are designed to enable Ghanaian travellers, businesspeople, merchants and students in China to make payments directly in Chinese Yuan (RMB), eliminating the need for intermediate currency conversions, such as converting Ghana cedis into US dollars before making payments.

The cards are available in two formats – Physical Prepaid Cards – For convenient in-person payments and Virtual Prepaid Cards, accessible through digital platforms.

Customers can obtain the cards through GCB Bank branches and the GCB Mobile App.

The initiative is expected to facilitate smoother financial transactions for Ghanaians engaging in business, trade, education, and other activities in China, while further strengthening economic and commercial ties between Ghana and China.

AGI’s participation underscores the Association’s continued commitment to promoting international business partnerships, facilitating trade and investment opportunities, and strengthening Ghana’s commercial engagement with strategic global markets.
