President of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Dr. Kwesi H. Ayim Darke was at the 2023 edition of the Ghana Economic Forum (GEF) as a panel member on this year’s theme “Build back better: IMF support, strategies to build a sustainable economy and dynamic business environment’.
In his address, he emphasized that the private sector is the engine of economic growth and development. “It is responsible for creating jobs, generating wealth, and innovating. In Ghana, the private sector accounts for over 80% of GDP and employs over 90% of the workforce.”
On the government, he said that it plays an important role in creating a conducive environment for the private sector to thrive. This includes investing in infrastructure, providing tax breaks and other incentives, and reducing bureaucracy.
The forum’s 12th edition was organized against a backdrop of the toughest macroeconomic period in over a decade.
