On February 27, 2025, our Western/Central Regional Branch team, led by Regional Chairman, Mr. J.C. Garbrah, undertook a visit to Twifo Oil Palm Plantation (TOPP) Ltd, a leading player in Ghana’s oil palm industry and one of the top five palm oil producers in the country, alongside GOPDC, BOPP, PSG Socfinaf, and Norpalm.
We were warmly received by the Managing Director, Mr. Daniel Kojo Nyame, and his team, comprising:
– Mr. Emmanuel Kwarteng, Finance Manager
– Mr. Charles Sackey, BDS Officer
– Mr. Enoch Menkah, Factory Manager
During the visit, we noted the following key highlights:
– Extensive Plantation: 4,290 hectares of oil palm plantation
– State-of-the-Art Mill: A 30T/hr palm oil mill
– Support for Smallholder Farmers: Support for 1,894 smallholder farmers and 3,300 outgrower projects
– Employment Opportunities: Employment opportunities for approximately 2,000 people
We were also impressed by TOPP’s commitment to community development initiatives, including:
– Healthcare Services: Healthcare services for nearby communities
– Educational Support: Educational support for local schools
– Financial Services: Financial services and security for a brighter future
However, the company faces several challenges, including:
– Uncertainty in CPO Prices: Uncertainty in Crude Palm Oil (CPO) prices on the global market
– Difficulty in Finding Funds: Difficulty in finding funds for new projects
– Stealing and Side-Selling: Stealing and side-selling of palm fruits
– Cumbersome Taxation: Cumbersome taxation and import duty systems
– Encroachment of Land: Encroachment of land due to community expansion
– Land Acquisition Difficulties: Land acquisition difficulties
– High Costs of Fertilizers and Labour: High costs of fertilizers and labour
Despite these challenges, TOPP demonstrates a strong commitment to innovation and community development.
