The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), in collaboration with the Ghana Revenue Authority, yesterday held a sensitisation workshop on the Upfront VAT Relief policy at the Coconut Grove Regency Hotel, with participation from over 50 member companies.
In his opening remarks, AGI CEO Seth Twum-Akwaboah emphasised the importance of the Upfront VAT Relief as a critical policy designed to support industrial growth and ease cash flow constraints for manufacturers. He noted that while the policy offers temporary relief, compliance remains essential to sustain its benefits, urging members to fully understand and adhere to its requirements. He stressed that continued access depends on compliance and proper utilisation.
Representing GRA, Mr. Francis Appiah-Amoh, Assistant Commissioner for Programmes and Planning, highlighted the dual importance of the policy supporting local manufacturing while safeguarding government revenue. He cautioned against the misuse of the relief as a tax avoidance mechanism.
The session also featured a detailed presentation by Mrs. Taibatu Ibrahim from GRA’s Policy and Programming Department, who provided clarity on the implementation, monitoring, and expectations of the relief scheme.
The workshop served as an important platform for dialogue, knowledge-sharing, and reinforcing the need for transparency and compliance. Both AGI and GRA reaffirmed their commitment to continuous engagement to ensure the policy remains effective in promoting industrial development while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
