THE BRITISH HIGH COMMISSIONER VISITS AGI IN KUMASI

The British High Commissioner to Ghana, His Excellency Christian Rogg, accompanied by his aide, Madam Pamela Bassah, paid a courtesy visit to the AGI office in Kumasi this afternoon. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen business relations between the United Kingdom and Ghana, particularly within the Ashanti Region, and to explore opportunities for expanding UK investment activities beyond Accra.

During the engagement, it was highlighted that UK investors are particularly interested in equity investments in the pharmaceutical, textile, and manufacturing sectors. Members of AGI present at the meeting also raised questions regarding other investment opportunities, including waste management within the garment industry, grant support for SME development, and business exchange programmes between Ghana and the United Kingdom aimed at identifying direct business partners.

In addition, AGI members expressed interest in establishing strategic partnerships for the production of agricultural raw materials, as well as the provision of processing and preservation facilities to help reduce post-harvest losses.

Responding to the concerns raised, the High Commissioner explained that UK investors are primarily focused on equity investments rather than grant funding. He further noted that UK businesses are interested in risk-sharing partnerships in sectors such as automobile parts manufacturing and vehicle assembly.

The High Commissioner also recommended the UK-Ghana Chamber of Commerce as a valuable platform through which AGI members could connect with potential business partners. He further directed his aide to liaise with the AGI office to provide information on exhibitions and business programmes in the United Kingdom.
